What is the reaction when you mix together Oil, water, food colouring and Alka-Seltzer.

This is how you complete the Experiment

1. Make sure you have got all of the ingredients you need in arms reach.
2. First put a paper towel on a flat surface.
3. Second put a see through plastic cup onto the paper towel.
4. Third put ⅔ of a cup of oil in to the plastic cup.
5. Then look very closely to what happens when you put ⅓ of water into the cup with the oil.
6. Now you will see how putting 15 drops of food coloring into the cup.
7. finely you will watch very carefully to see the reaction when you drop one alka-saltzer tablet into the cup.

This is why alka-saltzer reacts to water and oil.

Why does alka-seltzer react with water and oil?

Because Oil floats on the surface because water is heavier than oil. Water is more dense than the oil. The Alka-Seltzer tablet reacts with the water to make carbon dioxide gas. These bubbles attach themselves to the coloured water and cause them to float to the surface.
